A Fun Thanksgiving Photo Scavenger Hunt Activity

Things You'll Need:
Friends and family
Digital cameras - 1 for each team
List for each team
Pen or pencil or each team
Prizes

1. Prepare a guest list or send invitations. The number of guests will determine the number of teams needed.

2. Determine what kind of prizes you will award. Ribbons, trophies, gift cards or privileges (such as the 1st to go through the buffet line).

3. Have a digital camera, pen or pencil, and list ready for each team.

4.Prepare a scavenger photo hunt list - here is a sample - use your imagination - the object is to take as many of the photos on the list as possible in the time limit given.  Here's a sample to get you started :

1. Person impersonating a turkey 
    Bonus 10 pts. - if person is in front of a grocery store
2. 2 People holding 1 ear of corn between their knees
    Bonus 10 pts if one person is standing on his head
3. Someone standing next to a pilgrim
    Bonus 25 pts if Pilgrim is alive
4. Whole team - each holding something orange
    Bonus 10 pts if one item is a pumpkin
5. Someone pretending to eat a cornucopia
    Bonus 15 pts if fruit is real
6. Someone pretending to eat hay
    Bonus 10 pts if hay is real
7. 2 People impersonating Indians
   Bonus 25 pts if they have feathers
8. Someone in a canoe
   Bonus 25 pts if canoe is in water
9. A table setting (fork, knife, spoon, plate)
   Bonus 10 pts if there is a placemat
10. Someone balancing a pumpkin on their head
      Bonus 10 pts if pumpkin is bigger than their head
11. 4 People pointing to a Happy Thanksgiving sign
      Bonus 10 pts if all people are rubbing their stomachs
12. Whole team holding the letters to spell Thanksgiving
      Bonus 10 pts if team is holding hands
13. A pumpkin pie
     Bonus 10 pts if there is also whipped cream
14. A Thanksgiving card -
     Bonus 10 pts if it is signed
15. A rake with autumn leaves
     Bonus 10 pts if rake is red

5. Assign points to each photo opportunity according to how difficult you think the teams will be able to accomplish them in your neighborhood.

6. Set perimeters - will it be the neighborhood on foot - or if there are designated drivers - in cars.

7. Make rules now so there will be no arguments later. Can 1 photo be used for 2 photo opportunities? Will there be penalties for teams that are late

8. Divide into teams. Give each team a camera, pen, and list. Reinforce rules. Decide on time limit. Set time to return.

9. Send them off on a Scavenger Hunting adventure. Put the finishing touches on Thanksgiving dinner or refreshments while the teams are gone.

10.When teams return, share photos and tally points to determine the winner.
